Titans Clinch Super Regional Berth With 10-3 Victory Over Fresno State

June 5, 2006

Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Tournament Most Outstanding Player Blake Davis went 3-for-5 with three runs driven in and the Cal State Fullerton offense banged out 12 hits on the night as the top-seeded Titans earned a berth in next weekend's super regional round with a 10-3 victory over No. 2-seeded Fresno State on Sunday night at Goodwin Field.

Fullerton improved to 46-13 overall and will host the winner of Monday's Pepperdine-Missouri contest in next weekend's best-of-three super regional round to determine who advances to the College World Series.

Fresno State finishes its regular season with a 45-18 overall record.

Senior right-hander Dustin Miller (12-1) earned the win for the Titans, allowing three runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work. The Bulldogs' Brandon Miller (0-2), who was making his first start of the season, suffered the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Fullerton senior Danny Dorn broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth as his bases-loaded fielder's choice drove home Justin Turner with the go-ahead run. The Titans would add two more on a pair of sacrifice flies by Bryan Harris and Cory Vanderhook to make it 6-3.

Controversy reigned in the sixth with two runners on for Cal State Fullerton as Davis' line drive to centerfield looked to be snared on a diving catch by the Bulldogs' Nick Moresi. However, the umpires ruled otherwise, giving Davis a triple and plating two more run for the Titans to make it 8-3.

Fresno State Head Coach Mike Batesole came out to argue the call and was ejected minutes later.

Turner also finished with three hits for the Titans after going hitless in Fullerton's previous two regional games. The Bulldogs were led offensively by Brian Lapin, who was 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI after going 0-for-11 in Fresno State's first three postseason contests.
