Box Score

Gabriel Farfan flicked a ball with his head over Cal Poly goalkeeper Patrick McLain's head from five yards out off of a free kick by Jacob Shumway but Cal State Fullerton could not hold onto the early 1-0 lead and dropped its season finale Sunday afternoon at Cal Poly, 3-1.

Daniel Gray, Kyle Montgomery and Julian Alavarez scored for Cal Poly (11-4-4 overall, 6-2-4 Big West), which out-shot Fullerton (7-10-3 overall, 2-7-3 Big West), 18-8.

McLain had three saves for Cal Poly in his first career start while Brent Douglas had six saves while splitting goalkeeper duties for the Titans. Douglas left the first half at 27:02 and returned to start the second half. Douglas was responsible for allowing two of Cal Poly's goals while Kevin Puder recorded one save and allowed one goal for the Titans.

The win puts the Mustangs in a position to earn an at-large bid to the College Cup. Although Cal Poly's chances were damaged in a 4-3 loss to visiting Portland on Friday, the Mustangs are still on the bubble heading into Monday's selection show.

Gray scored the equalizer for the Mustangs just three minutes after the Titans' goal. Jose Garcia took a corner kick, but the ball darted past several Cal Poly heads and was deflected to the back left of the box where Gray trapped and sent an arching shot into the net for his third goal of the season.

Cal Poly had another goal called back for offsides in the closing 10 seconds of the first half as Anton Peterlin launched a low shot for the left side of the frame. Puder blocked the shot and Montgomery sprinted to tap the loose ball into the goal with the final seconds counting down, but he was again ruled offside.

The Mustangs went ahead in the 63rd minute as Jeff Meyer Jr. drilled a low cross through the box. Montgomery was there at the far side of the frame and bounced a shot over Cal State Fullerton's keeper for his sixth goal of the season.

Cal Poly tacked on an insurance goal in the 85th minute as Andrew "Boomer" Cruz sent a bending cross past over the keeper and Julian Alvarez, running in, headed the ball into the goal for his seventh score of the season.
